NEWS

Ottawa-area citizens will soon benefit from reduced wait times with a new MRI machine and $800,000 in annual funding for its operation.

The new MRI - the second for Hôpital Montfort - will play a key role in the hospital’s Francophone medical teaching program and support enhanced health care services.

In the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), MRI hours have almost tripled from 11,440 in 2004 to 31,060 hours by the end of 2007. Hôpital Montfort’s new MRI will add roughly 2080 more hours of care.

QUOTES

“The new MRI at Hôpital Montfort will help to reduce wait times for MRI scans in the Ottawa region and across the province,” said Madeleine Meilleur, Minister of Community and Social Services and Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs.

“Ottawa-area residents will have increased access to quality care, closer to home,” said Phil McNeely, MPP Ottawa-Orléans.

“The investment of a new MRI for our hospital strengthens our capacity to deliver better health care services for our patients,” said Gérald Savoie, Hôpital Montfort CEO.

“This is great news for the Ottawa area," said Dr. Robert Cushman, Champlain LHIN CEO.
"For patients, this means faster diagnosis of an ailment, which leads to faster treatment, close to home."

QUICK FACTS
  • The new MRI will be installed and operational this Fall.
  • It will provide approximately 3,000 diagnostic scans annually.
