Ontario Public Drug Programs
Councils

One of the key recommendations of the Transparent Drug System for Patients Act 2006 is to strengthen the governance of the public drug system through defining principles such as transparency and accountability. Several new initiatives provide tangible examples of Ontario Public Drug Programs' commitment to these principles.

Ontario Public Drug Programs are committed to utilizing the expertise of Ontario pharmacists through the Pharmacy Council , established to provide expert advice to the Minister and Executive Officer on pharmaceutical and health policy.

As well, Ontario is involving patients and consumers in a meaningful way. Patients now have input into drug listing decisions through the Committee to Evaluate Drugs , and a new Citizens' Council is being created to give ordinary citizens the opportunity to share their perspectives on values that are important to consider when making policy decisions about drugs.
