Education and Patient Care Standards

The Education and Patient Care Standards section of Emergency Health Services Branch is responsible for the credentialing program for Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistants (AEMCA), Advanced Care Paramedics, Aeromedical personnel, and Ambulance Communications Officers.

In addition, the Education and Patient Care Standards section :

Education and Patient Care Standards liaises with the Ontario Base Hospital Medical Advisory Committee to develop and maintain :

The Education section administers the process required by the Labour Mobility Provision of the Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT) regarding recognition of paramedic qualifications from other provinces and territories, and uses the Paramedic Equivalency Process to review credentials and experience that may be equivalent to the paramedic qualifications required in Ontario.

Education and Patient Care Standards is also responsible for developing and delivering the core land ambulance Central Ambulance Communications Centres dispatch training program, both entry level and ongoing, to ensure land ambulance dispatchers meet Provincial training standards.

Paramedic services in Ontario are regulated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care under the authority of the Ambulance Act and its regulations.

The Education Overview section describes paramedic programs, education and training as well as the Ontario Paramedic Equivalency Process for existing paramedics.
