Mumps Catch-Up Vaccination Program
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is implementing a Mumps Catch-Up Vaccination Program, focusing on young adults.
Mumps can have serious complications. There have been outbreaks of mumps in four other provinces, and infections may be on the rise in Ontario. Four out of five young adults born in Ontario between 1970 and 1991 are not fully protected against mumps.
The catch-up program is focused on young adults because they have been vaccinated only once and have a high risk of infection as they tend to live, learn and work in close proximity, especially those attending college or university.
