Complex Needs Working Group Report

Improving Home Care and Community Services for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and Complex Care Needs

June 2017

Improving Home Care and Community Services for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and Complex Care Needs is a report produced by the Complex Needs Working Group, composed of ministry and community representatives who were tasked with providing recommendations for improving home care and community services for adults with intellectual disabilities and complex needs and their caregivers. The ministry is grateful for the contribution of community representatives to this initiative.

The report prepared by the Working Group contains eight recommendations to improve home care and community services, enabling adults with intellectual disabilities and complex medical needs to remain where they wish to be, at home and in the community.

This initiative aligns with the priorities outlined in the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s Patients First: A Roadmap to Strengthen Home and Community Care (Roadmap) by  putting the needs of people and patients at the centre of the health care system and delivering better coordinated and integrated care in the community, closer to home.
