To help hospitals meet the requirements of the Excellent Care for All Act, three major health care organizations have partnered with the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to create and deliver education sessions for the province's hospital leaders. The partnering organizations are the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA), the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation (CHSRF) and the Canadian Patient Safety Institute (CPSI).
These specialized two-day sessions, which are funded by the government of Ontario, will offer hospital board members the skills and tools they need to improve governance in the area of quality and patient safety.
The sessions will be built on the pre-existing Effective Governance for Quality and Patient Safety program, originally developed by CHSRF and CPSI, but will include elements that reflect the Excellent Care for All legislation.
Participants in the Ontario program will learn to :
Good governance is increasingly recognized as having the potential to improve performance of healthcare professionals, reduce adverse events, and increase patient safety.
This education program is open to all Ontario hospitals and is geared toward hospital board chairs, CEOs and members of quality committees.
The program will make stops in London, Toronto, Ottawa, North Bay, and Thunder Bay between March and May 2011.
