February 17, 2015
The task force reviewing the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 will be holding consultations in late February and in March in downtown Toronto.
Individuals who have been personally involved in, or affected by, patient sexual abuse, as well as groups (such as professional associations and advocacy groups) with an interest in the prevention of sexual abuse of patients or individuals affiliated with interested groups are invited to participate.
In December 2014, Ontario's Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, the Honourable Dr. Eric Hoskins, appointed the task force to begin its review in January 2015. The task force will make recommendations to the Minister with respect to the prevention of sexual abuse of patients by regulated health professionals.
The task force is co-chaired by human rights lawyer, Professor Marilou McPhedran and former Chief Justice of Ontario, the Honourable Roy McMurtry. Educator and Registered Nurse, Sheila Macdonald will also be on the panel.
Individuals interested in participating in the consultations must confirm a time and date with the task force coordinator to be given the opportunity to make a short presentation to the task force. Presentations are by appointment only and spaces are limited.
To inquire about available appointments, please contact the task force at SATaskforce@ontario.ca or at 1-844-821-6151.
