Ontario Releases Diagnostic Sonography Report

August 24, 2015

Ontario is releasing the Health Professions Regulatory Advisory Council's (HPRAC) Diagnostic Sonography: Recommendations for Regulation under the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 Volume 1 Volume 2.

In developing its report, HPRAC reviewed the Ontario Association of Medical Radiation Sciences' application regarding the regulation of diagnostic sonography, and conducted an extensive three month public and stakeholder consultation.

One of the recommendations outlined in the report is that diagnostic sonographers be regulated within the College of Medical Radiation Technologists of Ontario. It also provides additional advice regarding the potential scope of practice and controlled acts for the new profession.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care will engage in discussions with affected organizations to hear their perspectives on HPRAC's recommendations and potential next steps for the diagnostic sonography profession.

Quote

"HPRAC has provided solid recommendations and I'd like to thank the public and stakeholders for providing their input during HPRAC's consultations. I look forward to the upcoming discussions with affected organizations on prospective next steps."
- Honourable Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care
