Coming this fall, a new Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic in Peterborough will bring peace of mind to 3,200 more people with access to health care closer to home.
Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics offer a team-based approach to frontline health care services by collaborating with doctors and other health care professionals.
Once fully operational, the VON 360 Degree Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic’s team of staff will include four nurse practitioners, two registered nurses, two social workers, a part-time registered dietician and the collaboration of a doctor.
Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics are a key part of the government's plan to provide better access to health care services while improving quality and accountability for patients.
“Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics, like the new one in Peterborough, demonstrate our government’s commitment to increase access to family health care. This made-in-Ontario initiative will be an invaluable investment for this community for years to come.”
– Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care
“I’m excited about the opening of the new Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic in Peterborough. It will improve access to health care services in the downtown core that local residents need.”
– Jeff Leal, MPP for Peterborough
"The VON 360 Degree Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic is an innovative model that is designed to improve access to health care for Peterborough residents who currently don’t have a regular family health care provider. The clinic has a comprehensive, team-based approach that will improve the health of both clients and the community. This is VON’s second Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic in Ontario."
– Judith Shamian, President and CEO, VON Canada
"Nurse practitioners are clearly demonstrating how they can contribute to family health care through these Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics. People in Peterborough will benefit from increased access to family health care as well as the comprehensive, team-based approach that this clinic will provide."
– Doris Grinspun, Executive Director, Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario
