Patient Surveys

The Excellent Care for All Act (ECFAA) contains a requirement for hospitals to conduct annual patient and caregiver surveys at least once every fiscal year.

At this time, there are no established requirements for survey methodology (such as survey provider, specific groups of patients to be included or minimum sample size), so organizations need to consider what is appropriate for their facilities. In doing so, however, they should make every effort to apply the following recommendations:

Section 5.
(1) Every health care organization shall carry out surveys, at least once every fiscal year, of persons who have received services from the health care organization in the past 12 months and of caregivers of those persons who had contact with the organization in connection with those services.

The purpose is to collect information concerning satisfaction with the services provided by the health care organization.
