Compliance Reports

The Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA) is the principal statute governing emergencies in Ontario. The legislation also outlines roles and responsibilities in ensuring Ontario's emergency preparedness. These include creating and maintaining an emergency response and business continuity plan, identifying critical infrastructure, conducting training and exercises, promoting public awareness, etc. Provincial ministries are evaluated annually on their compliance with the EMCPA requirements by the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management (OFMEM).

Since 2008, in addition to compliance materials submitted to EMO, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) has also developed an annual compliance report. This report, published annually, provides an overview of the MOHLTC's work in the area of emergency management as aligned with its annual obligations under the EMCPA. The report also identifies next steps for continued improvement of the MOHLTC's emergency management program.
