Late Career

The Late Career Nurse Initiative (LCNI) is designed to allow nurses 55 years of age and older to spend 20 per cent of their work time in less physically demanding nursing roles. The goals of this initiative include:

  • Creation of alternate, less physically demanding or expanded roles.
  • Provision of healthy work environments (HWEs) for nurses.
  • Enhancement of the knowledge and expertise of late career nurses – allowing them to transfer their knowledge to novice nurses.

Call for Expressions of Interest – 2016/17 Late Career Nurse Initiative Expressions of Interest forms will be available June 20, 2016

The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care is accepting Expressions of Interest for the 2016/17 Late Career Nurse Initiative (LCNI).

To obtain a copy of the Expression of interest form and updated LCNI guidelines please email the Nursing Policy and Innovation Branch at The subject line of the email should read “Request: 2016/17 LCNI Expression of interest <Organization Name>”.

Completed Expressions of Interest must be received by July 22, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. EST.
