Malpractice Coverage Reimbursement

In November 2000, along with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) renewal information, you received information regarding the new options for reimbursement of malpractice coverage fees for the premium year 2001. The new options will streamline the reimbursement process and reduce the financial burden for physicians. The following table reviews the 2001 reimbursement options that were available to you. If you did not advise the CMPA of your choice you were automatically placed in Option C.

OPTION A – Early (April) Reimbursement

Option B – Quarterly Reimbursement

Option C – Regular Reimbursement

Physicians who paid their CMPA annual fees in full with a post-dated cheque dated May 1, 2001 by January 1, 2001.

  • Physicians who authorized electronic  transfer of information from the CMPA to MOHLTC

  • Physicians  who authorized electronic funds transfer into their MOHLTC solo bank account

Physicians who are paying their CMPA fees in the monthly pre-authorized payment plan.

  •   Physicians who authorized electronic transfer of information from the CMPA to MOHLTC

  • Physicians  who authorized electronic funds transfer into their MOHLTC solo  bank account

Physicians who paid their CMPA fees either annually or monthly but:

  • Did not authorize electronic transfer of information from the CMPA to MOHLTC

  • Did not authorize electronic funds transfer into their MOHLTC solo bank account or did not have a MOHLTC solo bank account

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHTLC) has also streamlined the reimbursement of malpractice fees for the premium year 2000 so that all physicians who authorized the CMPA to transfer their membership information electronically to the ministry do not have to complete an application package for reimbursement of premium year 2000 malpractice coverage fees. In mid February, the CMPA forwarded directly to the ministry the required membership information.
