Changes for Automated Malpractice Reimbursement Payments

These changes will provide more physicians with the opportunity to participate in the program using an automated payment option provided that all ministry eligibility requirements are met.

To be Eligible for Reimbursement under the Ontario Reimbursement Program you must:

  • Be a resident of Canada during the coverage period; Practice in Ontario during the coverage period; and,
  • Be licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).

To be Eligible for Reimbursement using an Automated Payment Option you must:

  • Meet all eligibility requirements for reimbursement in the Ontario Reimbursement Program;
  • Be a member of the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA);
  • Be registered for Direct Bank Deposit with the ministry either exclusively for malpractice reimbursement or using the solo billing number account; and,
  • Be registered for an automated payment option with both the CMPA and the ministry.
