Medical Liability Protection (MLP) Reimbursement Program


Program Reimbursement Options

Eligibility requirements for ALL payment reimbursement options:

  1. Physicians, including academics (work type codes 12, 13, 14 – interns, residents and clinical fellows), must be licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO).
  2. Physicians must be practicing medicine in Ontario and be a resident of Canada during the reimbursement period.
  3. Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) reimbursements are made directly to the physician. It is the physicians' responsibility to confirm or report the reimbursement of medical liability protection fees paid by any third party such as a hospital, clinic or university.

Advance Reimbursement Option A For physicians that wish to pay their Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) membership fees in one instalment.

If CMPA fees are paid by pre-authorized debit, physicians receive ministry reimbursement in advance of paying CMPA fees.
Annually, physicians must register and enter into a payment agreement with the CMPA by January 1st. In order to be reimbursed on time, ensure a completed Medical Liability Protection (MLP) Reimbursement Program Authorization is received at MOHLTC no later than January 1st of the year to be reimbursed. Note: once a program authorization has been completed, there is no need to register each year. If program eligibility remains intact, future reimbursements (if applicable) will be automatically processed.

Must register direct deposit banking information with the ministry.

Only CMPA members are eligible for Option A or Option B.

Academics are ineligible for Option A.

In April of current reimbursement year.

Consists of one payment received no later than April 30th.

In Year Quarterly Reimbursement Option B For physicians that wish to pay their CMPA membership fees monthly.

Four quarterly reimbursement payments received within the current year.
Academics Annually, academics must register and enter into a payment agreement with the CMPA by June 30th.

All Other CMPA Work Type Codes
Annually, physicians must register and enter into a payment agreement with the CMPA by January 1st.
Quarterly in the current reimbursement year.

Deposits will happen in April, July, and October with the final payment in January of the following year.
 

The reimbursement payment option, once selected, shall remain in effect until such time as a signed authorization is received to cancel and/or modify the choice.
