For physicians that wish to pay their Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) membership fees in one instalment. If CMPA fees are paid by pre-authorized debit, physicians receive ministry reimbursement in advance of paying CMPA fees. |
Annually, physicians must register and enter into a payment agreement with the CMPA by January 1st. |
In order to be reimbursed on time, ensure a completed Medical Liability Protection (MLP) Reimbursement Program Authorization is received at MOHLTC no later than January 1st of the year to be reimbursed. Note: once a program authorization has been completed, there is no need to register each year. If program eligibility remains intact, future reimbursements (if applicable) will be automatically processed. Must register direct deposit banking information with the ministry. Only CMPA members are eligible for Option A or Option B. Academics are ineligible for Option A. |
In April of current reimbursement year. Consists of one payment received no later than April 30th. |

In Year Quarterly Reimbursement |
For physicians that wish to pay their CMPA membership fees monthly. Four quarterly reimbursement payments received within the current year. |

Retroactive Reimbursement |
For physicians including non CMPA members, that are ineligible for Option A, or Option B. Also for CMPA members that prefer to annually reapply to receive one retroactive reimbursement payment. |
Physicians pay medical liability protection fees monthly or annually. Fees must be in good standing by June 30th (of the year following the year to be reimbursed). |
A reimbursement application is completed and returned to the ministry each year by June 30th with proof of fees paid. |
Consists of one payment, received approximately 6-8 weeks after receiving a completed application for reimbursement, along with proof of payment. Incomplete applications are returned, and may result in a delay. |
The reimbursement payment option, once selected, shall remain in effect until such time as a signed authorization is received to cancel and/or modify the choice.
