Signs for smoke-and vape-free spaces

You must post no smoking and no vaping signs if you are an employer or owner (proprietor) of an:

You must post enough of either both the individual tobacco signs and the individual electronic cigarette signs, or the combined tobacco and electronic cigarette signs, at each entrance, exit and washroom to ensure employees and the public know they cannot smoke tobacco or cannabis (medical or recreational) or vape anything there.

You must post additional no smoking and no vaping signs if you are an employer or owner (proprietor) of a:

  • hotel,
  • motel, or
  • inn

In the case of hotels, motels, and inns, you must either post both of the individual tobacco sign and individual electronic cigarette sign, or the combined tobacco and electronic cigarette sign, in every:

  • “non-smoking” or “non-vaping” guest room, and
  • washroom associated with such guest rooms

Signs for controlled areas in certain residential facilities and hospices

If a residential care facility (meaning a long-term care home, retirement home that provides care, provincially funded supportive housing residence, designated veterans' facility, designated psychiatric facility), or residential hospice has a controlled area where people can smoke or vape, the facility owner (proprietor) and employer must post signs outside any entrance to the controlled area.
