Performance improvement initiatives are aimed at helping Ontario’s hospitals to increase their efficiencies and improve patient care quality :

Surgical Efficiency Targets Program

When there are delays in performing surgery, patient anxiety and length of stay in hospitals increase. The Surgical Efficiency Targets Program (SETP) aims to optimize surgical capacity in Ontario, increase access to surgical services, and maintain safe, quality patient care.

The SETP currently collects data for the following types of information :

Critical Care Information System

In February 2007, the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care took a major step in health care information management by implementing Ontario's first Critical Care Information System (CCIS) in 9 adult medical / surgical ICUs across the province.

MRI and CT Decision Support Tool for Referring Physicians

As part of the Ontario government’s ongoing work to reduce MRI and CT wait times and improve patient safety, the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and the University Health Network, in partnership with St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, developed an MRI and CT Decision Support Tool for physician use.

The tool responds to physician demand for innovative MRI and CT related tools to support physician clinical decision practices and the appropriateness of testing.
