Fair Drug Prices

Drug Changes: The Facts

Ontario is one of the largest purchasers of prescription drugs in the world, but we’ve been paying some of the highest prices for generic drugs.

Compared to some US states, we have been paying as much as five times more for some of the most popular generic drugs for diabetes, high blood pressure and other health conditions.

With the changes we’ve made to the drug system, the cost of most generics will decrease by at least 50%. The savings will go to improving health care, including better pharmacy services in rural Ontario and more services. These services include support for those who have difficulty traveling to their local pharmacy, in-home medication reviews with pharmacists and special consultations for people with diabetes.

Simply put, fair drug prices benefit all Ontarians.
