Promoting the Better Use of Medications
Ensuring that patients are using medications properly and safely is one of the most important things that pharmacists do, and in Ontario we have pharmacists that do it very well. That’s why the government reimburses pharmacists for the time they spend teaching patients to properly manage their medications.
Through the MedsCheck medication review program, patients have the opportunity to seek advice from their pharmacist about whether they are taking the right medications, at the right doses and at the right time. Ontario reimburses pharmacists for providing this service.
The MedsCheck program is a recognition that pharmacists have skill and expertise that patients need and for which they should be reimbursed. To date, more than 465,000 Ontarians have received a MedsCheck consultation, and pharmacists have received more than $35.9 million in reimbursement.
