Initial Report on Public Health
Health Unit Profiles

Each of Ontario's 36 public health units must respond to unique demographic, social conditions and health needs within its community. The health unit profile information describes the local service delivery environment for each public health unit. The table provides context for the indicator data included in the report. Each of the variables in the table demonstrates that the delivery of public health programs and services in Ontario occurs in significantly different, multi-faceted and complex geographic, cultural, social and economic environments.

Table 1 now includes all variables from the 2009 report, new variables from a 2012 update (number tobacco vendors, number of college and university campuses), and a third new variable, number of retirement homes.  Additional changes include the reassignment of health units to the 2011 peer group categories as defined by Statistics Canada, and the updating of variables based on 2011 Census and national survey data.
