TORONTO – The McGuinty government is improving health card service for hundreds of Ontarians daily with the official opening today of a new Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) office in downtown Toronto, Health and Long-Term Care Minister George Smitherman announced. "Our government always strives to provide efficient and effective customer service, and recognizes the importance of having health card registration services available in downtown Toronto," Smitherman said. "This new OHIP office, conveniently located in the central downtown core, will make it easier for Toronto residents and Greater Toronto Area commuters to have ready access to these important services." The new OHIP office is located in College Park, 777 Bay St., (market level) at the southeast corner of Bay Street and College Street. Services available at the site include health card registration for newcomers to Ontario, renewals of health cards, change of address, change of name, and replacement of lost or stolen health cards. It is expected that the new OHIP office will serve about 800 people each day. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For customer convenience, appointments may be booked for this office through the ministry's toll-free number 1-888-376-5197. There now are nine OHIP offices in the GTA and 26 province-wide. For further information : Members of the media :
