July 4, 2007 NAPANEE – The McGuinty government is boosting the province’s share of funding for the redevelopment of the Lennox and Addington County General Hospital by providing an additional grant of $8 million, Health and Long-Term Care Minister George Smitherman announced today. “This investment will help to bring Napanee – area residents one step closer to a new hospital in their community,” said Smitherman. “This is another example of our government’s commitment to work with local communities to ensure that patients have access to high quality health care closer to home.” The additional $8 million announced today brings the government’s investment to approximately $21.5 million for the redevelopment of Lennox and Addington County General Hospital. "We are making sure Ontarians continue to receive the best health care possible by supporting the services they receive in our hospitals," said Leona Dombrowsky, MPP for Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox & Addington. "This funding commitment means patients in Lennox & Addington will benefit from improved access to the first-class care provided here in the community." “We are delighted the government is investing in our hospital,” said Arthur Ronald, Executive Director, Lennox and Addington County General Hospital. “This new investment will boost our delivery of health care services significantly.” The redevelopment project will include expansions and renovations to emergency, surgical and ambulatory care areas and the construction of a new complex continuing care wing. The Lennox and Addington County General Hospital currently operates 32 beds and once the redevelopment is completed it will have 52 beds. This is just one more example of how, working together, Ontarians have achieved results in health care services in the Napanee area. Other initiatives include :
Today’s initiative is part of the McGuinty government’s plan for innovation in public health care, building a system that delivers on three priorities – keeping Ontarians healthy, reducing wait times and providing better access to doctors and nurses. For further information : Members of the media :
