June 11, 2007 TORONTO – The McGuinty government has appointed Mark Rochon, President and CEO of Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, as supervisor at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston to help the hospital better meet the health care needs of the local community, Health and Long-Term Care Minister George Smitherman announced today. “Our government is committed to ensuring the patients that rely upon Stevenson Memorial Hospital for care, can do so with confidence,” said Smitherman. “We’ve appointed Mark Rochon as supervisor to ensure stable operation of the hospital by working through issues related to governance and service delivery so area residents can access the best health care possible.” The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care was recently informed that the hospital’s Board of Directors resigned effective June 8, 2007. Under legislation, as recommended by the minister, the Lieutenant Governor in Council can immediately appoint a supervisor to replace the board of directors if there are not enough hospital board members to form a quorum. “I welcome the role of supervisor at Stevenson Memorial Hospital in service to the residents of Alliston,” said Rochon. “I look forward to working with the community, physicians and staff to help ensure the hospital is better placed to respond to the needs of the community.” As Supervisor, Mr. Rochon, will have the ability to exercise all the responsibilities of the hospital board, the corporation, its officers and members in governing the hospital. He will liaise directly with the Central Local Health Integration Network and report to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. In his first act as supervisor, Mr. Rochon announced that he will visit Stevenson Memorial Hospital on Friday, June 15th. Rochon also announced the cancellation of the hospital’s annual general meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 14th. For further information : Members of the media :
