In 2004/05 and 2005/06 fiscal years, as part of the Critical Care Strategy, the Ministry provided funding to some Ontario hospitals to increase critical care and chronic assisted ventilatory care (CAVC) bed capacity. Hospitals receiving funding are presented in the tables below.

In August 2005, the Ontario Critical Care Expert Panel established the Chronic Ventilation Task Group (Dr. Greg Downey, Chair) to determine how to meet the needs of medically stable chronically ventilated patients while improving access to existing ICU resources.

The Final Report of the Chronic Ventilation Task Group [PDF Format] is now complete. It was presented to the Ontario Critical Care Expert Panel on June 6th and subsequently reviewed by Ministry senior management. The Ministry is currently developing implementation plans and considering funding decisions based on the report recommendations. Funding announcements are anticipated in the autumn of 2006.
