Strengthening Transparency and Accountability

Patient Representatives on the Committee to Evaluate Drugs Progress

For the first time, the government is giving patients an active role in drug listing recommendations by appointing members to the Committee to Evaluate Drugs. Two patient members are appointed to the Committee to Evaluate Drugs (CED). Patient representatives will provide meaningful public input into the overall drug-funding recommendation process. Government drug funding decisions will still focus on evidence through considering the drug's efficacy, clinical evidence and cost effectiveness.

Highlights

  • Patient working group provided advice on process, selection and training of new members
  • Two new members appointed to CED through the Public Appointments Secretariat
