Pandemic Planning Assumptions

As part of the ongoing efforts of the Ontario Health Plan for an Influenza Pandemic Steering Committee, this year’s plan includes estimated impacts of an influenza pandemic on the Ontario’s population.

This information was based on the Meltzer model, which was developed at the Centres for Disease Control, in the United States. In addition, the assumptions used population data collected in Canada’s 2006 census.

This information can be accessed in its entirety or by individual health unit for ease of reference. It is also found in chapter 3 of the 2007 Ontario Health Plan for an Influenza Pandemic.
