OHIP Insured Chiropractic Services

Section 18 of Regulation 552 under the Health Insurance Act states that only services rendered by chiropractors are prescribed as insured services under the Plan.

For an initial or subsequent service to be insured, a chiropractor must provide a therapeutically necessary service and/or treatment to the patient. The treatment includes an intervention within a chiropractors’ scope of practice defined in the Regulated Health Professions Act and the Chiropractic Act. A spinal manipulation by the treating chiropractor does not have to occur for the service to be insured.

To be eligible for payment, the practitioner’s record must record the service provided by the chiropractor who submitted an account for the insured service, and must document the therapeutic necessity of the service for that patient.

While OHIP is only a partial payer for chiropractic services rendered to patients, no service that is delegated by a chiropractor to another person is eligible for payment by OHIP
