Bariatric Surgery

The Ontario government is improving access to treatment for Ontarians who are struggling with severe obesity by investing $75 million over the next three years to increase the province’s capacity for providing bariatric services including surgery. It is expected that the number of bariatric surgeries performed in Ontario will increase to over 2000 per year by 2011/12. Physicians considering application for prior approval for bariatric surgery out of country or out of province on behalf of their patients are encouraged to contact one of Ontario’s bariatric centres at the contact points provided below prior to applying.

Ontario Providers of Bariatric Services

The MOHLTC has entered into funding agreements - preferred provider arrangements (PPAs) - with the following U.S. facilities to fund gastric bypass surgery to Ontario residents who have received prior approval for funding from the MOHLTC.   Only OOC bariatric services rendered at one of the following PPA facilities are eligible for funding.
