  • West Nile virus

    Surveillance:
    Examining the status of West Nile virus (WNV) in Ontario

    The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care works with others to monitor the presence of WNV in the province.

    Surveillance statistics for 2000 through 2006 for human, bird, mosquito and horse cases of West Nile virus are provided here. Statistics on birds are collected by the Canadian Cooperative Wildlife Health Centre (CCWHC) and are available through the Public Health Agency of Canada. Surveillance statistics on horses are collected by and available from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

    For information about mosquito control measures (such as larviciding) in specific regions of the province, please contact your local public health unit.
