Funding of Herceptin® for the treatment of breast cancer

In recognition of Health Canada approval of the use ofHerceptin® for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care has provided funding for Herceptin® under the Provincial New Drug Program administered by Cancer Care Ontario. Fourteen laboratories throughout the province have been designated to provide the testing service for HER2/neu. An abnormal HER2/neu test result is the eligibility criteria for receiving Herceptin® treatment.

The laboratories that the ministry will fund to provide this regional testing service are as follows :

  • Kingston General Hospital
  • Kitchener, Grand River Health Services
  • London Health Sciences Centre
  • Mississauga, Credit Valley Hospital
  • North York General Hospital
  • Oshawa, Lakeridge Health Corporation
  • Ottawa Hospital Corporation
  • Sudbury Regional Hospital
  • Thunder Bay Regional Hospital
  • Toronto, Mount Sinai Hospital
  • Toronto, Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre
  • Toronto, University Health Network
  • Windsor Regional Hospital
