Central East (Whitby) Mental Health Implementation Task Force
Final Report

Seizing the Opportunity

The Central East (Whitby) Mental Health Implementation Task Force (MHITF) is pleased to present its Final Report to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care.

In twenty months, the Task Force completed its mandate to advise the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care on provincial psychiatric hospital restructuring, community reinvestments, and other associated requirements for the implementation of a reformed mental health system in Central East (Whitby), as defined in Making It Happen, 1999.

The Task Force catchment area includes the regions of Durham and York, the City of Kawartha Lakes, and the counties of Haliburton, Northumberland, and Peterborough. The Task Force is also responsible for providing advice regarding Specialized Services for half the Scarborough population, because this population is part of the Whitby Mental Health Centre catchment area.
