Toronto-Peel Mental Health Implementation Task Force Final Report
The Toronto-Peel Mental Health Implementation Task Force (MHITF) was established in January 2001 by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, the Honourable Elizabeth Witmer, with the mandate to provide recommendations and advice to the Minister in three areas: i) the implementation of restructured mental health systems for Toronto and Peel in accordance with the government's policy framework, Making It Happen; ii) the creation of mental health service systems for Toronto and Peel that are comprehensive, integrated, accessible and accountable; and iii) the required community capacity for people with serious mental illness to support the Health Services Restructuring Commission directives with respect to Toronto and Peel. The Task Force and its Sub-Committees heard from over 100 expert presenters who not only educated them on a wide range of mental health-related issues, but also stirred the spirit and provided much food for thought. In addition, two rounds of community consultations, invitational sessions, meetings, and visits to several hospital- and community-based service and support programs, provided the Task Force with invaluable insights from over 2,000 consumers, family members, mental health service and support providers, administrators, and other community stakeholders. Thanks are extended to all those who gave generously of their time and expertise. |
