Medical Laboratory Technologists In Ontario

Medical laboratory technologists (MLTs) are one of the five largest groups of health care professionals in Ontario. There are more than 6,800 active registered members with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario.

MLTs conduct and interpret diagnostic tests on body fluids and tissues. These tests provide a basis for the diagnosis and treatment of patients, and are used to monitor a patient's progress in during the course of treatment.

The Ontario government is adding 32 new training positions for MLTs over three years at the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences in Toronto..

This will mean that, by September 2004, there will be 211 entry-level positions for MLTs in the province - including 64 at the Michener Institute and 147 in the community college system.
