| National Health Council monitors and reports from the national stage |
|
As a result of the First Ministers' Accord on Health Care Renewal in February 2003, the National Health Council was created to improve accountability and monitor the progress of this accord. Its members are informed, passionate people who have been given the job of offering challenging and diverse views about healthcare in Canada. Each province and territory sought out residents, and nominated up to four potential candidates to act as an expert or public representative on the national health council. The National Health Council reports through federal, provincial and territorial Ministers of Health and includes a chair, 13 government representatives, and 13 expert and public representatives. Members (both expert and public) are not to act as representatives of particular organizations. The council's chair and members were announced by Health Canada December 9, 2003. |
