Organization: West Cluster Maternal Child Network Project: Creating a Regional Approach to Staff Education Contact: Ruth Turner The West Cluster Maternal Child Network developed a regional program for education and health care providers through a partnership among four hospitals within the framework of the Child Health Network (CHN) for the Greater Toronto Area. The key benefits of the regional education program include: the partnership enables the region to support staff development and strengthen the ability of the programs to respond to evolving patient needs in a timely manner, reducing the silo effect and building bridges between the hospitals and community, promotion of evidence based practice and promotion of family centred care. The regional excellence model is innovative for a number of reasons including: it requires collaboration among four hospitals with eight sites; it improves the quality of care for mothers, newborns and children; and it shares resources at a time when health care providers are in demand and there is pressure on the system to do more with less.
