Standing Committee on Social Policy Holds Public Hearings on Bill 36

The Standing Committee on Social Policy will meet to consider Bill 36, An Act to provide for the integration of the local system for the delivery of health services.

The committee intends to hold public hearings in Toronto, London, Ottawa and Thunder Bay on January 30 and 31 and February 1 and 2, 2006. Those interested in being considered for an oral presentation on Bill 36 were asked to contact the Committee Clerk by end of day on Friday, January 13. Those who do not wish to make an oral presentation but would like to comment on the Bill may send written submissions to Committee Clerk at the address listed below by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6.

Following the public hearings, the Committee will review all the submissions and proposed amendments. The Bill will then go to clause-by-clause, where the Committee members will debate the proposed legislation. The Committee members may propose amendments and will vote on each section of the proposed legislation.

The Committee is currently scheduled to do the clause-by-clause review on February 13 and 14 in Toronto. Following the review, the Bill would be reported on by the Committee to the House and it could be called for third reading, where it would be voted on. If passed, the Bill would then be submitted to the Lieutenant Governor for Royal Assent.

LHINs Finalizing Senior Director Appointments

Most Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) have now hired Senior Directors of Performance, Contract and Allocation and Senior Directors of Planning, Integration and Community Engagement. LHIN Chief Executive Officers have organized a welcome and orientation for the new Directors on January 18.

Please look for the LHIN Bulletin mid-month, every month. Also, LHIN-related updates and reports will be posted on this site at the beginning of every month, if necessary.
