Bulletin No. 8 / March 15, 2005

Today's issue brings you an update on the adjustments to the LHIN boundaries, and the 14 LHIN integration priority reports submitted to the ministry.

Adjustments to LHIN Boundaries

Following the initial announcement of the LHIN boundaries in October, the ministry received feedback from a variety of stakeholders. The majority of the LHIN boundary issues that were raised were related to concerns expressed by municipalities, requests to move hospitals from one LHIN to another, or revising the LHIN boundaries to match current provider relationships and patient flow.

The ministry analyzed this feedback and LHIN boundaries were adjusted, where appropriate.

The maps of the final LHIN boundaries are currently being produced by the Provincial Geomatics Service Centre and will be posted on this site as soon as possible, along with supporting documentation.

Integration Priority Reports

Integration priority reports for each of the 14 LHINs were submitted by the end of February and the ministry thanks all individuals and organizations that volunteered their time, energy and resources in the preparation of the reports.

The reports are the result of the ministry's 14 LHIN community workshops held across Ontario in November and December 2004. Approximately 4,000 people attended the workshops. At each workshop, participants identified integration priorities important for their LHIN and voted at the end of the day for the top 10 integration priorities in patient care and administrative/support services. Each LHIN community then developed a report based on the top 10 priorities. The reports will be made available to the founding LHIN boards and CEOs as a foundation for their planning work.

Following is a brief overview of the reports' characteristics :

  • All reports contained valuable information, including existing and new integration opportunities and many innovative ideas which the founding LHIN leaders can pursue and build on.
  • There was a significant amount of input and involvement from a large number of community organizations in the development of the reports.
  • The majority of LHINs provided positive comments about the collaborative approach to preparing the submission.
Integration Priority Opportunities - Key Themes

The 14 integration priority reports identified a total of 142 priority initiatives. From a review of these 142 initiatives, eight general themes emerged that are presented in the following chart :
