Local Health Integration Networks

Bulletin No. 14 / August 24, 2005

Since the launch of the Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs) on June 28, the founding leaders of the 14 LHINs continue to participate in orientation activities designed to familiarize them with their mandate and introduce them to their LHIN communities. This issue brings you a brief update on some of these activities.

LHIN-Provider Meet and Greet Events Underway

During late July and August, the LHIN board members and CEOs are hosting 36 Meet and Greet Events across the province with the chairs, CEOs and executive directors of local health care provider organizations in their LHIN areas. The meetings provide an opportunity for the LHIN founding board members to meet health care providers, many of whom will be directly accountable to the LHINs. Attendees are from several sectors, including hospitals, mental health and addictions, community support services and long-term care.

The Meet and Greet Events are only one channel for open discussion and collaboration with the LHIN leaders. As part of the ongoing community engagement function of the LHINs, there will be many opportunities for involvement and input from a wider range of health care providers, community representatives and the public in the future.

LHIN Orientation Sessions Slated for August

An orientation session for the LHIN CEOs (August 22-24) and a joint Board/CEO session (August 25-26) is taking place in Toronto, to provide leadership development and to facilitate start up of LHIN business operations. Profiles of LHIN CEOs and board members as well as news releases and backgrounders are available.

Highlights of the orientation sessions include :

  • Operational start-up and corporate governance overview
  • A two-day leadership development program at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management for the LHIN CEOs
  • Overview of the LHIN's planning and community engagement responsibilities
  • A focus on community consultation, ongoing strategic activities and board recruitment.
Other Developments

The ministry continues to work on finalizing the preparation of office space and establishing start-up infrastructure for the LHINs, with the goal of achieving operational readiness in early fall. In addition, work is underway to develop and launch the common web portal and individual web sites for the 14 LHINs in the next few weeks.

Please look for the LHIN Bulletin mid-month, every month. Also, LHIN-related updates and reports will be posted on this site at the beginning of every month, if necessary.
