Local Health Integration Networks

Bulletin No. 16 / October 18, 2005
Community-Based Recruitment for Part-Time Directors Is Underway

The boards of the 14 founding Local Health Integration Networks have been hosting public information sessions across the province to generate awareness of their community-based board recruitment process and to encourage members of the public to apply to be part-time directors.

In total, 59 meetings and satellite broadcasts have been held in 46 cities and towns from September 26 to October 18. Already, 950 people have attended the meetings, giving the Local Health Integration Network leaders the opportunity to provide an overview of their mandate and governance, and to answer questions.

Overall, the tone of the meetings has been very positive and constructive and many board applications have already been received by the Public Appointments Secretariat, which is overseeing the application and appointment process.

For more information about these and other director positions, please visit the Public Appointments Secretariat web site at www.pas.gov.on.ca.

Currently, each of the 14 Local Health Integration Network boards consists of one chair and two directors. Three more are in the process of being appointed through the Public Appointments Secretariat, and the individual LHIN Boards are recruiting three final board members through the community-based recruitment process. It is expected that the full complement of nine board members in each Local Health Integration Network will be in place by January 2006.

Introducing the Local Health Integration Networks Web Site

On October 17, the Local Health Integration Networks web site was launched at www.lhins.on.ca. The bilingual site was developed to provide information at a provincial level about the networks, and within the main portal, each Local Health Integration Network has a site. Individual sites can be accessed through the Local Health Integration Network Locator.

The web site will support the ongoing Local Health Integration Networks` communications and community engagement process, providing a place for each network to post event schedules, local presentations, fact sheets, news and reports.

This launch represents Phase I of a longer-term strategy. The timing of further phases will evolve as Local Health Integration Networks become fully operational.

  • Phase II will see an increase in specific content for each Local Health Integration Network, including community engagement information, upcoming events and reports.
  • In Phase III, the scope of the web site is expected to widen to include more information about health care service providers in the local networks and profiles of best practices in local health care integration.
  • In Phase IV, the web site will provide specific, outcome information related to performance and the impact of the Local Health Integration Networks on the system, including: performance metrics, such as hospital utilization and average length of stay; accountability measures; health outcomes; demographics; other relevant health information; and provider and stakeholder reports.

Please look for the LHIN Bulletin mid-month, every month. Also, LHIN-related updates and reports will be posted on this site at the beginning of every month, if necessary.
