Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics
25 Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics (NPLCs) were announced in 2007 as part of the Family Health Care for All Strategy and are targeted to be fully operational by 2012. This new model of care will see nurse practitioners working in collaboration with doctors and other interdisciplinary health care providers delivery health care to many Ontarians who previously did not have access to a primary health care provider. The Clinics will not only focus on providing better primary care to patients, but through education will work with patients about disease prevention, health promotion and improved self care in management of chronic diseases. The Clinics will help patients navigate the health system – connecting them, when needed, with other service providers and with community-based programs and services. Call for Applications – Wave 1
The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHTLC) awarded three clinics in February 2009 from the Wave 1 call for applications. Congratulations to Sault Ste. Marie; Belle River Township of Lakeshore and Thunder Bay as the new Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinics. Call for Applications – Wave 2
The Wave 2 call for applications was announced on June 24, 2009 and closed on July 30, 2009 at 5:00pm. On Monday, November 16, 2009 Premiere Dalton McGuinty announced the Georgian Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic as a successful applicant in the North Simcoe Muskoka LHIN.. The remaining seven successful applicants from the Wave 2 call for applications will be announced shortly. Call for Applications – Wave 3
