Laboratory Services Expert Panel Review

The ministry’s review of laboratory services supports Ontario’s Action Plan for Health Care, which focuses on putting patients' needs first.

The ministry established the Laboratory Services Expert Panel to make recommendations on a future funding model for community labs with a focus on value, quality, and access. In its report, the Expert Panel has made important  recommendations to improve and modernize laboratory funding and services.

The Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care thanks the expert panel for its work and recommendations.

Note: Clarification to page 16, Laboratory Services Expert Panel Review, regarding OAML funding:

The ministry does not directly fund the OAML with ministry funds. In a signed letter of consent dated January 2010, the laboratories agreed that a total of $900,000 be deducted from laboratories payments for insured services provided and be paid by the Ministry to the OAML.
