The Osteoporosis Strategy is a provincially coordinated initiative aimed at managing osteoporosis, reducing fragility (i.e., osteoporotic), fractures and promoting bone health through health promotion and disease management.
The Strategy provides a way to improve health outcomes and address increasing demand on the health care system in a proactive, cost-effective and efficacious manner.
For those people who already have osteoporosis, improvements in the clinical management of osteoporosis initiated under the disease management components of the Strategy will result in reduced disability, improved quality of life, and less pain and suffering.
By reducing fractures, the Strategy will help to reduce system pressures and wait times for hip and knee replacements.
