2018/19 Late Career Nurse Initiative (LCNI) Update

In order to address the government’s key health care priorities, the ministry is looking at ways in which it can maximize the impact of its training, recruitment, and retention investments for nurses to ensure better patient experience, outcomes, and value within an evolving health care system.

The ministry reviewed LCNI and has concluded that it will be able to explore more effective and fiscally sustainable ways to support the retention of late career nurses within the context of the nursing investment refocusing work. As such the ministry will be looking to realign current investments in late career nurse programs like LCNI as part of the wider process of revisioning our nursing programs. As a result, the 2018/19 Expression of Interests that have been submitted will not be funded by the ministry.

The ministry is committed to strengthening the nursing workforce to meet health care needs of the people of Ontario and will continue working with stakeholder groups to ensure late-career nurses are supported. We will continue to update you on the progress of this work as they become available.
