Updates Rural and Northern Physicians

Increases to Rural and Northern Physician Group Agreement (RNPGA) funding under the Physician Services Agreement, effective April 1, 2021

The Ministry of Health (ministry) and the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) have been working together to implement physician compensation increases in accordance with the 2021 Physician Services Agreement (PSA).

Effective April 1, 2021, the payment elements under your funding agreement listed in the table below will be increased based on the April 1, 2020 values as follows:

Year 1 (April 1, 2021-March 31, 2022)

A temporary increase to the RNPGA payments of 1% will be applied as one-time payments.
Further information on Year 1 compensation will be released at a later date.

Year 2 (April 1, 2022-March 31, 2023)

A temporary increase to RNPGA payments of 2.01%.
Additionally, starting April 1, 2022, the RNPGA Base Rate Payment will be permanently increased by 4%.
You can expect these payments monthly starting on your first payment for Year 2 services (e.g., April 2022).

Year 3 (April 1, 2023-March 31, 2024)

Starting April 1, 2023, the RNPGA Base Rate Payment will be permanently increased by 4%.
You can expect these payments monthly starting on your first payment for Year 3 services (e.g., April 2023).
We will provide further information about Year 3 compensation increases as they become available.

**For Year 3, the RNPGA Agreement changes listed in Schedule C, 3, d) of the 2021 PSA are being formalized. We will provide further information about amendments to the RNPGA agreement as they become available.
