Universal Influenza Immunization Program (UIIP)

Fee-For-Service Providers and Family Health Teams:

This information applies to all health care providers that administer publicly funded influenza vaccine and bill the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) for this service or who are paid by the province through means other than reimbursement directly through the UIIP. Health care providers who do not bill OHIP or are not already paid through some other provincial funding source should refer to the section for UIIP prequalified organizations (e.g., health care agencies and other organization) for information on hosting reimbursable or non-reimbursable influenza immunization clinics.

As in previous years, the receipt of vaccine in the province begins in late September and during October. You will be notified by your vaccine supply source (i.e., local public health unit or OGPMSS) when the vaccine is available.

Ontario Health Insurance Plan OHIP Billing for Influenza Vaccine Administration

It is important for the ministry to capture administrative data on influenza immunization for the purposes of program monitoring and evaluation. Therefore, when billing OHIP, please select the applicable OHIP billing code that is specific for influenza immunization.

Physicians are encouraged to review the delegation requirements in the General Preamble of the Schedule of Benefits for Physician Services prior to holding immunization clinics. Physicians who have concerns regarding these requirements or who have additional questions should contact their local OHIP district office.

Family Health Teams (FHTs):

The following information applies to Family Health Teams (FHTs) that administer publicly funded influenza vaccine that are NOT captured through OHIP. The ministry is requesting FHTs to report aggregate administrative data for influenza vaccination of their patients using the Influenza Vaccine Utilization Report form.

Completed Influenza Vaccine Utilization Report forms must be submitted to UIIP.MOH@ontario.ca.
