U.S. Preferred Providers: Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell Therapy

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has entered into preferred provider arrangements with the following U.S. facilities to provide CAR T-cell therapy with an FDA-approved product to Ontario residents who are 18 years of age or older with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) or who are 18 to 25 years of age (including those ages) with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) who have received prior approval from the MOH.

• Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio (DLBCL and ALL)
• Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, Buffalo, New York (DLBCL and ALL)
• Karmanos Cancer Institute, Detroit, Michigan (DLBCL)

 

The ministry does not endorse, warrant, guarantee or otherwise certify the quality or standards of treatment or other services provided by preferred providers. Hospital scorecards are one tool that may be of assistance to patients and physicians seeking further information about appropriateness, quality and safety.

As of December 4, 2019, Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) is administering the Ontario CAR T-cell Therapy Program. To support the timely adjudication of all out-of-country (OOC) CAR T-cell funding applications, Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) is also acting as the ministry’s agent in collecting OOC applications for this therapy directly on behalf of the ministry.

After consideration of the funding recommendation made by Ontario Health (Cancer Care Ontario) to the ministry, the ministry will send you and your patient a decision letter. All decisions regarding OOC funding remain a decision of the General Manager of the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
